My favorite tea creators, tea bloggers and tea podcasts
Hello tea friends,
How are you doing? Today I’d like to share with you some of my favorite tea creators, tea bloggers and tea podcasts. Some are new discoveries, some have been inspiring me for years!
When I’m lacking inspiration, I find myself turning to fellow content creators in any field to remind myself how amazing the creative process is and how hard it can be at times but most importantly how blessed I am to be able to do what I love.
Without further ado, and in no particular order, here are my favorite tea creators, tea bloggers and tea podcasts. Feel free to recommend your personal favorite creators in the comment section.
Shernelle’s Tea Talk podcast. I recently discovered Shernelle’s podcast and was instantly hooked! If I were the host of a tea podcast, I would interview the exact same tea people Shernelle has had on her show, no kidding! The conversations Shernelle has with her guests are accessible and insightful at the same time and I appreciate the podcast format very much. Listening to captivating tea content while doing everyday chores makes me feel very productive.
Ceremonial Grade by Jenny Zhou. I’ve been following Jenny’s main Instagram account for a long time and more recently she opened this second account to focus on her passion for all things matcha! Her photography, styling and impeccable taste draw you into her beautiful world of matcha and swoon-worthy teaware, where you’ll discover the secrets of preparing a great bowl of traditionally whisked matcha, a frothy latte or the prettiest matcha mocktail you’ll ever see, the Green Palm.
Talking Tea podcast by Ken Cohen. As I mentioned earlier, I appreciate being able to listen to thought-provoking content while doing everyday chores, which is why I’m so obsessed with podcasts in general, and tea podcasts in particular. Talking Tea covers a wide range of interesting, off-the-beaten-path tea topics, including an in-depth overview of teapots, emptiness in the Japanese way of tea practice and, my personal favorite, a sensory immersion into tea.
The Oolong Drunk. There’s a tea creator going above and beyond to create a community around tea right now. I’m referring to Cody, also known as The Oolong Drunk. He has been hosting a series of Instagram live streams featuring tea people from around the globe but that’s not all, his blog is one of the most unique sources of tea content you can find. One of my favorite sections of Cody’s blog is Music Monday, where he recommends a music album to listen to while having tea, a tea pairing and a review of the album too. I’m re-discovering Lana Del Rey thanks to Cody.
Tealisa by Elisa Da Rin. Elisa lived in Tokyo, Japan for years before moving back to Italy just recently. She has contributed to The Tea Squirrel twice, when she wrote about her experience visiting a Japanese tea farm and when she shared a special tea tasting experience she had in Kyoto. Now she’s focusing on tea and mindfulness and has started a series of short interviews on Instagram. I highly recommend her approach to tea with easy to follow prompts to incorporate tea into your daily practice.
The Tea Letter by Mike Newton. Mike is a student of the Urasenke School of the Japanese way of tea, chado. I love his blog because he is exploring tea from a fresh, all-encompassing perspective, that is tea as a lifestyle. You’ll also find him on Twitter, where you can expect to be inspired to think outside the box about tea and tea culture.
Alessandra Rovetta. You’ll remember Alessandra, the Italian tea expert working at Fortnum and Mason in London, from my interview with her not long ago here on the blog. Alessandra’s Instagram feed is brimming with British charm and makes me want to hop onto the next flight to London to join her for afternoon tea.
Tea For Me Please by Nicole Wilson. Tea For Me Please is THE tea blog to follow and I’m pretty sure you knew that already! Nicole is a reliable source of tea knowledge and her blog has been a point of reference in the tea world for over a decade! Her Friday Roundup is a great resource to discover emerging and established tea creators alike.
Teartist. Miguel is a self-described ‘teaholic’ based in LA and I am a big fan of his tea photography! His Instagram feed has an atmospheric quality to it, which will make you want to join him at the tea table and ask him about his technique to capture the light and shadows and steeping tea leaves so beautifully.
The Cup of Life by Lu Ann Pannunzio. Do you need a great recipe for scones to serve with your tea? Lu Ann has a few on her blog but that is not all because she has covered many tea topics in her 10 years of tea blogging! Recipes, interviews, tea knowledge, you name it! Oh, did I mention that she’s also the author of a lovely tea book?
STEAP’D by Marco Namowicz. I love Marco’s approach to tea. It ranges from tasting tea with a more structured approach to making puer tea lattes and from tea mixology to activism, where tea becomes a tool to change the world for the better. Such an inspiration! I think that STEAP’D beautifully embodies what I love about tea and what tea is all about, something that brings us together despite our differences.
